The following courses are beginner friendly, FREE, and are provided directly by Microsoft. They help you go from zero to job-ready understanding of AI and earn Microsoft-verified skill badges upon completion.
Step 1: Understand the basic AI Concepts
Purpose: Build basic understanding of what AI and Generative AI are. Explains how AI works in modern tech like ChatGPT, Copilot, DALL·E, etc.
Outcome: You’ll understand what AI can do and how it fits into real-world jobs.
Certificate: Yes (Microsoft-verified)
Step 2: Build logic and learn AI Programming
Purpose: Build your foundation in AI concepts and algorithms. Learn about neural networks, supervised/unsupervised learning, computer vision and natural language processing (NLP). Work through Jupyter notebooks in Python and develop logic and practical coding acumen.
Outcome: You’ll start thinking like an AI engineer, understanding how AI models learn from data.
Certificate: Not official, but open-source credential.
Step 3: Project-Based Learning
Course: Generative AI for Beginners
Purpose: Hands-on course that shows how to build AI apps using Azure OpenAI, Python, or TypeScript. Teaches prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and vector databases and using Python/TypeScript build small projects (e.g., chatbots, summarizers).
Outcome: You’ll get hands-on experience implementing AI logic end-to-end.
Certificate: Microsoft Learn Completion badge
Step 4: Gain deeper and adavanced understanding
Course: Microsoft AI&ML Engineering professional certificate
Purpose: A 5-course series from Microsoft covering advanced topics like scalable infrastructure for AI/ML, deep learning, large-language models (LLMs), troubleshooting agents, Azure workflows, and a capstone project.
Outcome: For people to get an advanced level understanding of AI/ML.
Certificate: Microsoft shareable certificate
Step 5: Build an AI Agent
Purpose: Introduce the core concepts of AI agents, the options for building them, and how to create and test a simple agent in the Azure AI Foundry portal.
Outcome: By the end, you’ll be able to describe what AI agents are, understand different development routes, and create/test an agent via the portal.
Certificate: Free digital completion badge available
